The children are severely hit in conflicts and the war in Ukraine is no exception, says Sverre Hanssen, chairman of the board of Enwa. - Enwa therefore contributes 150,000 Norwegian kroner (approx. €15.300) to UNICEF, earmarked Ukraine.

Enwa also donated 50,000 NOK to Save the Children and 50.000 NOK to the Red Cross earlier this year.

Children and families are now fleeing across the borders from Ukraine to Poland, Romania, Moldova and Belarus. Like all other conflicts, this will quickly develop into a child crisis, says UNICEF.

- These are undoubtedly cruel moments for the Ukrainian children," Afshan Khan, UNICEF's regional director for Europe and Central Asia, told Unicef.no.

Unicef knows Ukraina

UNICEF has been in Ukraine for 25 years, and know the area well. They are now strengthening their efforts on the ground with emergency aid such as security, clean water and vital health care.

UNICEF works to:

• To ensure clean drinking water and sanitation. 
• To establish life-saving health services with access to medicines. 
• Handing out warm clothes, warm blankets, hygiene items and first aid kits.
• To set up shelters for women and children along the escape routes.
• To set up teams that offer mental health care, and that take care of the children who have now moved away from their families.

Intensifies work in Eastern Ukraine

UNICEF is present in all countries bordering Ukraine. They have 13 mobile teams in eastern Ukraine that can provide children with protection against violence and abuse, provide mental health care and take care of children who have strayed from their families.

The work is coordinated by 140 employees from offices on both sides of the conflict line, both in Kramatorsk, Mariupol, Luhansk, Donetsk and Lviv Unicef.no.

Over the next three months, UNICEF plans to provide assistance to 4 million children inside Ukraine.

Unicef ​​writes that «On the weekend of 5 and 6 March, 40 tonnes of medicines and equipment from UNICEF's main warehouse in Copenhagen arrived in Ukraine. This is the first delivery of a total of 62 tonnes of emergency aid in the near future.
