UV is today one of the most common methods for disinfection. When UV-light penetrates the cell wall of an organism, it destroys the cells ability to reproduce, ie. the cell’s genetic material (DNA and RNA) is inactivated. UV systems have an immediate disinfection effect and are often used for the purpose as hygienic barrier/ “gatekeeper”.
Oxidation of microorganisms and organic contaminants is one of the most powerful disinfections methods available today. AOP uses the strong oxidation capabilities of OH-radicals to inactivate and degrade microorganisms to non-hazardous and inorganic substances. OH-radicals have a high oxidation potential and the rate of degradation is faster and more effective than other well known oxidants, eg Ozone and H2O2. AOP is suited for the purpose as a hygienic barrier/ “gatekeeper”.
The disinfection effect of silver- and copper ions has been known since ancient times and is widely used all over the world. The silver and copper ions penetrate the bacteria’s cell wall hence the bacteria burst and die. The silver- and copper ions are stable, and methods based on this technology have a long-term disinfection effect very suitable to prevent creation of biofilm and bacteria growth, including legionella.
UF is a membrane filter technology which physically removes the microorganisms from the water. Enwa’s UF system have a poresize of 0,03 µm.
